Running is a popular form of exercise and for good reasons which we will discus in this post.
If you are starting to get back in shape, it is a good idea to begin with fast walking, progress to jogging and then work yourself up to running. Running gives you a more intense workout but you want to make sure you are physically ready for it.

1. Running for cardiovascular health

Running is an excellent way to get your heart pumping for improved longevity and heart health. If you can run for 30 minutes per day 5 times per week, you are getting a very healthy cardio workout.

2. Running is free and accessible

The average gym costs are around $40 per month. The great thing about running is that you can do it anywhere and it’s totally free (besides investing in some good running shoes). If you are traveling, it is a great way to explore new areas while maintaining your exercise schedule.

3. Running to burn calories

If you go for that 30 minute run today, you will likely burn between 200 to 500 calories. The exact amount depends on several variables such as your body weight, the surface you are running on, the incline and your speed. We used the simple rule that on average you will burn 100 calories per mile, but if you want to be more specific there are apps or devices such as the Fitbit or a smartwatch.

4. Running for stress relief

If you are feeling stressed, running can be an immediate stress relief. Running clears your mind and energizes you while improving your fitness.
